I like this guy!

I don't get to get on here as much anymore as I am on the range at least 3-4 days every week, month after month but its nice to make the acquaintance of like-minded people.

Today was crazy hot & humid but it was a good class.
I had one O.D.T. member out but the mother/daughter team was very enjoyable. The daughter had a bad encounter w/ a neighbor who was right out of prison on parole.
W/o violating her privacy, I'll just say she was very afraid what would happen once he is released.

After discussing at length Use of Deadly Force laws, we went to the range where she started w/ a M&P .22 and , after becoming comfortable w/ it, announced she was ready to step up to a 9mm. She shot very well for even an experienced shooter & had a HUGE grin on her face when she left.

To watch the relief wash over her face by not feeling afraid anymore was very rewarding. She now has a good understanding of WHEN she should use it, WHERE she can carry it, HOW to handle it safely, how it operates & how to hit her target. Plus she has greatly increased her awareness & passive security to avoid another encounter w/ any "bad guy".

Some days I really love my job.....

If I was able to see him I would be shooting. Makes me think that I'm only going to be carrying a .45 from now on. Be on the lookout for a G26 for sale! Everyone bringing up the flash and the gas, yes you are right but if I'm able to see and I'm in range, I'm shooting. This has nothing to do with being a hero. And yes, I am a veteran and I do have training before any of you experts start trying to tell me how stupid I am.

Is that the generation that was too busy drinking and smoking themselves to death while their kids ran rampant in the 60's and 70's? The same generation that had the highest desertion rate in any war in the 20th century? I have respect for most of them, but I have a problem with people looking at them as the all good doing angels they were made out to be.

I think that it is universally recognized that they were defined by a willingness to be selfless in WWII.
To do the right thing when it came to standing up to the wave of tyranny that swept across Europe.
The generation that survived the Great Depression and then rationing in order to support the war effort.

A generation that did the right thing because it was the right thing to do, not just in self interest.
Typified by a young man that would willingly climb a hill topped with machine guns because it was what had to be done to save some unnamed soul.

It was not about the odds, it was about what had to be done.

Not having ever been in a situation like that, obviously i have no idea how i would react. Once i felt that i was somewhat safe and whomever i was with was safe, I think at least that i would have gotten off a few shots in his general direction to make him run for cover and to think twice about continuing his rampage.

Keep in mind he had a ballistic lid and throat protector only shot would have been right between the eyes.

its a simple failure to stop drill. shoot and keep shooting until the threat stops. if shooting in the chest isnt working, apply force somwhere else.

have you ever worn plates? people think they make your whole torso until you get issued some. i remember asking the supply sgt for the other half of mine, lol. he didnt think it was too funny :/

A few interesting things to note from that video/scenario:
The CCW players had never carried that weapon in that arrangement (the first guy was freaking that he even had one on).
The Bad Guy shooter was a FA instructor and already knew who the CCW player was (notice he singles out our heroes right away?).
The CCW players were all outfitted in long untucked t-shirts, gloves and unfamiliar headgear (obviously for protection, but screwed up the actual scenario).

That said, it was interesting to watch (except for the reporter with the ridiculous reaction time, goofily grinning).

Well it is apparent that you have not been reading the full report! He was head to toe in armor only shot was the face.... I have purposely stayed out of this because of the pissing match but my answer is simple. LOL yes I have worn plates. I can guarantee you I have had more lead slung my way than you can count. YES I would have fired being that I was granted with the choice of doing or not doing I would rather DO. You guys can bring training into it and everything else but at the end of the day you are responsible for your own character and your heart. I have been trained extremely well and would not hesitate to eliminate the threat if given the opportunity. And I can very comfortably say that I would have and still have no issues with laying down my life for someone in this situation and god forbid anything in the future that may present its self to me its who I am as a person.

The problem with this discussion is that the average CCL holder has no idea what a failure drill is and has never received defensive training. Some of the guys here may be prior service or LEO, and have been shot at before, others may be enthusiasts who take defensive carry seriously and have sought out training, but the average guy with a permit is probably neither. Arguments like this only bolster the idea that carrying is an automatic license to be a bad ass. Carrying is a responsibility and every person who chooses to do so should know their own limitations.
