I am not familiar with the term "trader axe".

Thanks Pop Pop, just in general,what is a fair prise to pay for a double bit axe that really rusted and will need a new handle?

I'd hate to say but it probably won't be much. Take a series of well lit pictures, both sides and the eye and I will tell you what I would pay for it, if that would help.

Just for thought, didn't Western knives mark their blades like this, as W47, etc ? My old Western Bowie is stamped W49..

All I can tell you is that it is a felling Axe in restorable condition. Without discernible markings it has little collectors value. It appears to be old, indicating better quality steel of days gone by. I might could say more if I could inspect it in person.
