Youth Shotgun

IMG_5348.JPG

I used a few different single-shot shotguns over the years, both break-open and bolt-action. I've trained kids and women to shoot them, too.

I suggest getting a "youth" pump shotgun. They come in extra small sizes with really short butt stocks if they're intended for kids or petite women. Even as a mature adult, the shotgun that fits me best for snap shooting in the field is a Mossberg 500 "Bantam" model-- that's their company name for the youth model, which is one size up from their smallest micro-model that has a stock like a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun.

Repeater shotguns are more fun, and they don't have that "cheap" or "I'm only carrying this because my Dad doesn't trust me with a real gun" look. A pump action youth model doesn't scream "I'm a newbie" to everybody who sees you carrying it.
