Hey guys and gals, I have a revolver that I inherited from my grandfather and I don't know a whole lot about it. On top of the barrel it says Model of 91 so I guess it's model of 1891? It also has no caliber designation so I don't know if it's a .38 S&W or a .32 cal. I'm guessing it's a single action based on some pics I've seen of the double actions. It has a very low 4 digit serial number that starts with a 9. I need help figuring out exactly what kind of gun it is (1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th model), date of manufacture, and approximate value. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! 20131227_154412.jpg20131227_153840.jpg20131227_154037.jpg20131227_154144.jpg

Wow! I'm not well versed on these older Smith's....but damn it looks like its pristine!

Unfortunately, it looks to have been refinished at some point, but who cares if its an heirloom.

Being a family heirloom, you should get it lettered to know the histort of it. Best $50 you'll spend.

Looks like a .38 S&W single action Third model. It came blued with wood grips or nickel with black or red hard rubber monogramed grips. The trigger is the single action type and the trigger guard makes it third model. serial numbers range from 1 to 28,107 and manufactured from 1891-1911
