Item Description: WTS - my 1941 WW2 "Byf" All Matching Mauser Luger - has its original Matching Serial Numbered Magazine as well as its Rare Type 6 Black Bakelite Grips
Specifics on this Luger:
1) This Luger has a Rare combination of a Matching Serial Numbered Aluminum Bottomed Magazine and its Original Type 6 Bakelite Grips. During the time of this Luger
"S" suffix production series small numbers of Lugers were being outfitted with Bakelite grips used as a second source alternative to wooden grips due to war time "conditioned" wood scarcity. The aluminum bottomed magazines were serial numbered in this series. The serial numbering of the magazines would be discontinued around the "U" series. A Matching Magazine on a Luger pistol is rare as most Lugers have "mis-matched" magazines. The matched magazine makes this Luger more valuable to collectors and its value is further enhanced by having its original set of Black Bakelite Grips. The grips on their own are worth $750+ depending on condition. Originals are always in high demand by Luger collectors.
2) 97% High Condition - only some external wear on the side plate and a few minor spots due to holster wear. Internal operational wear is minimal.
3) ALL Serial Number Matching - all parts that should be serial numbered are serial numbered - the Frame. Barrel, Side Plate, Side of Receiver, Take Down Lever, Safety Lever, Extractor, Middle Toggle Link, Rear Toggle Link, Safety Bar, Sear Bar. Toggle Pin, Trigger. Hold Open, Firing Pin, Breech Block, Magazine.
***Collectors value "All Matching" examples and are thus valued more. Usually the firing pin, the hold open and the magazine are the most frequently mis-matched parts.***
4) Bore is a 10 / 10.
5) Functions Flawlessly.
6) Bakelite Grips are Original and show virtually no wear and have no chips or cracks or repairs. They fit tight and have no movement on the pistol. The inside holes have "threads" inside them (which is proper for their removal from the manufacturing molds - see pictures) and this is also something you look for to verify their originality.
7) Magazine is in great condition and as said before has a matching serial number on its base.
8) Has all the correct wartime proof markings.
