From the standpoint of a former auto-mechanic with more than a couple engine rebuilds to his credit, yes, it matters a great deal. As far as I'm concerned, not having paperwork to support the claim of a properly performed top end rebuild would be a deal breaker for me.
Your statement; "For that price, does it really matter?" Well, if I had more money than brains, then I suppose it wouldn't.

As a former mechanic man I'm sure you know that you could update that entire top in with screaming eagle cards for about $400 maybe five and you would have $5000 in an $8000 motorcycle.
So I firmly stand by my statement.
