Keyword "RARE"

Establishing "rarity" is also becoming extremely difficult.

I've got a model 1909 Argentine Mauser Carbine with the GN (Gendarmeria Nacional, i.e. border patrol) crest and separate serial number. These were made in Argentina with German tooling.

Looking on-line, there were somewhere between 400 and 900 ever produced. However, even that is an odd range. Maybe only 400 - 500 were made, maybe 400 had one crest and the other 500 just had a "G.N." marking. Or maybe only 400-500 of 900 were imported?

There is no "one reference" like a serial number list for Garands by manufacturer that can be found on line. Of a book like the 1911 "bible" that covers all the details of differences between manufacturers and years.

In any case, 1 of 900 of a model that was otherwise mass produced is "rare". IF you count that having a specific crest and second serial number makes it "rare" as a certain model. Otherwise, it could be just another 1909 Argentine Mauser. But no one disagrees that a Singer 1911 is "rare".

FWIW: I'm bringing it to the ODT Show. Have to figure out how to price it...

Because....

It's RARE.

That’s not rare, that’s inexistent

I guess that would be beyond rare
