I'm only 5'9" and 150 lbs, but I've got a lot of hammock camping experience. For simplicity, I love my Hennessy hammock. I've done some modifications to make it better for me, but it is hard to beat for a simple design with hammock, bug net, and fly.
My son uses an ENO one link, that has the...
Here is the pit. I burned out the 16 gauge steel on the plasma table at work and rolled it. Picked up the stones and high temp paint from Lowe's or Home Depot. It is 36" diameter.
I built a fire pit in the back yard. We have fires pretty often. When camping, I just use a pinch to start a fire. In the pit, I just light the end of a roll and put kindling on top of it. It burns for a few minutes. Enough to start the wood burning.
Johnny knows I like him. It was meant as a compliment. I think he has one of my first stoves. I'm redesigning them so that they are smaller, lighter, and hopefully more efficient.
This post will probably put me on the "As weird as Johnny Survivor" list, but you guys that have been here a while probably remember the alcohol stoves that I made to run on Golden Grain/Everclear, so I'm probably already on that list.
During the winter months, I unhook the dryer vent line from...
bd71, I see that you're still online, but haven't answered my question. I'll help you out. Show me where you can buy an ENO double nest and slap strap pro for $99 OTD. I would love to know, because I was buying this as a gift for my son and $ is tight.
If you like camping/outdoors stuff, then it is excellent. Hennessy, Grand Trunk, and ENO camping hammocks. Large selection of Vibram and other hiking shoes. Water filtration. ESEE, Benchmade, and other mid/high end knives. About a Godzillion flashlights. Good prices and an excellent staff...
The only face that I recognized was Green Panther. I said "hi" as I was walking out as he was walking in. I was on the orange Road King by the front door. I'll try to be more sociable at future meets, but I had a schedule to keep and freak out a little in crowds.
Yes, I busted into a lock this weekend because I've lost the key. They are almost impossible to pull straight open, but they don't handle a side load well and just twist apart.

It is easy to bust open a lock without bolt cutters. A tomahawk makes quick work of a lock and has more uses and less weight than bolt cutters.
I twisted off a lock this weekend using a 1/2" socket extension instead of a hawk. It is quick and easy.
We are pretty cool with the neighbors on each side. Everyone else better stay the **** out of the cul de sac, or they're gonna be the next set of ribs on the grill.
Firearms wise, we pretty much stick with 9mm and .22 that the whole family knows how to use. The AK is mine. The wife and kids...
Here's the link to the new tomahawk prototype: http://www.theoutdoorstrader.com/threads/642101-Tomahawk-prototype-feedback-welcome
Go check it out and give me your opinions.
Thanks,
Jon
Over the past couple of years, I have purchased several beat up, cheap single shot shotguns. I cut them down to 19" barrel and add a shell carrier to the stock. If the poo ever does hit the fan, then the extended family that didn't have enough sense to prepare can have that and then hit the...
Yeah, he'll be doing the final grind work on them, once I fine tune the design. It would be cool to have some ready for BLADE show in June, but I doubt that will happen. FZ is building custom knives, and I've got to finish up a bunch of sheaths for the bars and his knives.
Hopefully I can...
That's an interesting idea. I thought of adding an additional hole near the spike and having someone mill a hammer head that could be bolted on. But that would increase cost, and I worry about stress fractures around the hole. Our pry bars aren't completely sharpened on the point, so that...
Here is the sketch, any feedback would be appreciated!
16" overall length
4" cutting edge
Spike is the same profile as our pry bar/knife.
Finger groove at the top of handle, so you can choke up an use it as a precise cutting tool.
Probably going with g10 handles, but the prototypes will be...
