Those are the multiple spark gaps. Basically several electrodes that can be adjusted for gap.
Here's how a tesla coil works. Power from wall (120v) goes into a step up transformer. 120v turns into ~6,000v. At the same time, capacitors are being charged up, when they peak, an arc travels...
I just posted a video of a power pole transformer I was using to do that. But here's this coil popping me through a tube. I'm just happy I didn't scream like a little girl.
I'm sure the next one I build will be a cause of interference. I'm going to use this power pole transformer I have for it. Because I already do stupid stuff with it. (The beeping is the UPS for the computer gear freaking out about undervoltage since I'm pulling god knows how many amps)
Never was into any dungeons and dragons or any of that crap. I just like science. And I'm learning about high voltage, capacitors, and other such items, to build a rail gun....
Just thought I'd share some of the things you can do with a ham license. Just worked Dallas TX with 5w of power.

There's a lot of good points made there. Basically it's going to come down to checking everything from the radio out to the whip, piece by piece. And SWR IS affected by overhead wires, metal buildings/structures, power lines. (My SWR increases in my Jeep with my Yaesu 857 on HF if I park...
No no no, you've got it all wrong. We need to run 10kw to talk over everyone we possibly can so we don't have to worry about things like that.
If anyone is interested, I'd be more than happy to get you involved in ham radio. Running a CB with a huge amp is like trying to spray a target down...
I'm not one for china crap. But I bought a 30amp switching power supply from ebay for like $25. It's a metal box that you have to supply a cord for, but it's worked good and can dial in the voltage. I know it can cause birdies in some setups. But I've been using it with my FT-450 fine.
I'm very pleased with my Yaesu FT-450D. $700 for all the HF bands plus 50mhz with 100w and a auto tuner (well that isn't all that great it only tunes 3:1 or less SWR).
Let me explain my analogy.
Drive to fast, wreck, harm someone else. Point? Rules/laws were there to help limit the risk.
Transmit on wrong frequencies, impact some guidance or telemetry system, plane crash or something bad. Again, rules are in place to prevent that.
I don't blindly believe...
I got my ticket a few months ago. KM4KRG.
Yeah, we should also be able to drive whatever we feel like speed wise right? I should be able to fly anything I like as well huh? I should.... get the picture? All of these things, while seemingly aren't a big deal, can impact others in worst...
