I would go the new route. Im typing now on a MacBook Pro I purchased for $1k new.
It's 5 years old and still runs like a champ.
Ive found that most windows based are designed to be cheap to attract buyer and last 1-2 years max.
Never had anything stronger than 12% but I have enjoyed OBP2 or Orange Blossom Pilsner Squared at around 11%.
Also had some Brooklyn Brewery Double Chocolate Stout that was pretty spot on at around 10%.
I tried more than a few times with a straight razor, worked ok. Close shave but it turned out to be time consuming. Spent more time worrying about cutting myself than anything.
With that said, I still use the shave soap and brush, just use a normal Gillette Mach 5 or whatever they are called...
