  1. Quota Hunt Applications

Have, 0-deer 2-dove 4-gator 2-turkey 3- state park Get drawn every year for Di-Lane 1st & 2nd deer hunt, 5 years straight. Been waiting on the State Park hunt, probably put in for Mistletoe this season. Alexander wma for dove. Di-Lane again for turkey. I live within 30 minutes of three pretty...
  2. Baiting

Thanks, and I do believe the beans are more important than corn. I'm in a rural area, 1500 acres on one side is either soybean or corn planted. Back side is a 3200 acre dairy farm that plants rye / wheat all year. Feeders & mineral sites are ran year round, it's a very good tool to help hold...
  3. Baiting

Baiting is not the magic bullet people make it out to be. I lease 420 acres in Burke County, which is the first county in the Southern zone, we do "bait" but I've only ever seen one shooter buck at a feeder in my life. This guy. Mostly it's going to be younger deer with does, which won't come...
  4. Guided Whitetail Hunts.

Last season, actually January of this year, me and a couple friends took a guided hunting trip to Langford Farms in Autaugaville, Ala. Very nice people and one of the best trips I've been on, at one point I lost count after having 32 deer within 300 yards. Several nice bucks, which were easily...
  5. Quota Hunts

Yes sir, in fact I've been drawn every year for the last 5 years in a row. I don't know why, but I got drawn for both hunts last season. I live 15 minutes from the gate also.
  6. Quota Hunts

Got picked for the early rifle hunt at Di-Lane.
  7. Advice for a virgin deer hunter?

Add me to that list. I've had to lay my smoke down to to get the shot before.. If the wind is in your face and high enough in a tree, doesn't matter what you do.
  8. Advice for a virgin deer hunter?

Be PATIENT!! That is the best advise I can give, I can not tell you how many deer I've harvested mid-day, my biggest was at 12:30 Once you've scouted and know deer are traveling through an area, stay out of that area until the wind is right to hunt it. Remember where the deer stood when the...
  9. Good affordable first hunting rifle and caliber recommendations?

If you're near this guy, I would check it out. Damn fine rifle for the money. http://www.theoutdoorstrader.com/threads/fs-browning-a-bolt-270.938129/
  10. Good affordable first hunting rifle and caliber recommendations?

One thing to remember, lighter rifles kick harder, nothing against the Tikka or any other brand. Another thing I'd suggest, joining a club, hunting is hard and WMA hunting is even harder. Most new hunters get turned off when they don't get a deer their first season, some after the first trip...
  11. Good affordable first hunting rifle and caliber recommendations?

Don't get me wrong, I like a 7mm-08 and even have a Marlin XS7 chambered in it that I got in trade off here for a Henry 22lr rifle. But here's my thought process, the 7mm-08 is almost a ballistic twin to the .270win out to about 200 yards then the .270 wins hands down. Box of .270win Corelokt's...
  12. Good affordable first hunting rifle and caliber recommendations?

I'd go with a Savage with the accu-trigger, awesome shooter right out the box. My Trophy Hunter XP model 11 came from the factory with a Nikon 3-9x40, mine's chambered in 270wsm and cost a little over 500, I'm sure a regular 270 / 308 would be less. As far as caliber, everyone's gonna throw out...
  13. Oink oink.

    Cool, sounds like a plan.
  14. Oink oink.

I"m about ready to try my luck again. Let me know what weekend works for you.
  15. Got the mount back...

Thanks, it was my first buck and I was as happy as a teenager on prom night! From field to wall in under 48 hours, stunk like the devil for about a week or so. Hard to get all of the cartilage out of those nasal passages...
  16. Got the mount back...

Very nice buck, congrats! Pick you up a toggle bolt, stain, and a piece of wood from the hardware store and get that thing on the wall. Here's one I did from a few years back, just boiled the head in the turkey fryer, while it was boiling I busted out the router and here's what I ended up with.
  17. Turkey Turkey

You're right, pheasant and quail do not require the HIP stamp, was just thinking birds and typing to fast and early in the morning I guess. I just get the sportsmans and trapping license , includes everything I might hunt in a given year.
  18. Turkey Turkey

Turkey, deer, and bear are considered big game= big game license+ regular hunting license. Dove, quail, squirrel, rabbit, etc, etc, are considered small game= regular hunting license. To hunt dove, quail, and pheasant you'll need an HIP stamp. It's free, just print it out before going. Ducks...
  19. Night vision hog hunts .

I've hunted alot! Most of the time I'll go to the lease at least 3 days a week after work, then there's the weekend.. Even been on some guided / semi guided/ and drop you off type pay hunts. Be it dove, deer, or hogs. There is no such thing as a "guaranteed" hunt, unless I guess if it's a penned...
  20. A Couple Small Game Questions

    1. Check regulations for the WMA you plan to hunt. None in my vicinity require check in. 2. I use the cargo pockets and any other pocket I can stuff em in, you're probably not gonna gonna get 20+ Most days me and a buddy will get about 5-7 a piece. Dove vest works well also 3. Squirrels can...
