Would avoid .223 if you can. I'm sure they work fine and like mentioned above a head shot will do the trick. Brought one of my buddies hunting two years ago, he's now a game warden in GA. He shot a big hog 3 times from 25 yards out with his AR-15 and it ran off like nothing even happened. Never...
You're already in a good area in Forsyth county. Plenty of big bucks in the metro Atlanta area if you can find places around here to hunt. Otherwise I would say head down towards Albany, GA area.
I've heard quite a good bit about big bucks killed between 11am and 2pm which has got me doing a few afternoon hunts lately. I just haven't had the ability to sit still in a stand up until that point after getting in before sunrise.
That's true. I got an infraction on there a few weeks ago for literally calling somebody a "fool" for asking members to write letters to UGA to get Richt fired. Said it was "name calling and personal attack". Wonder where public masturbation would fall on their rules violations....
If I could do that then I have no doubt I could sit in the stand until noon or later! I have AT&T down there and I only have service in Waynesboro and Louisville. Nothing in the middle of them though. Hopefully with this merger with Alltel though I will have service down there this time next year.
Don't be. That's what I love about this board. If I would have said that over on that "other" georgia outdoors forum I would have been banned and burned at the stake already.
That is actually a really good point. My roommate hunts out of a climber and he says it feels like a recliner. I don't use a climber, we use pretty basic ladder stands on our farm. 15' with metal seat, foam seat cushion, hand rails and shooting rail. I might need to look into actually forking a...
This. It's not like you can go set up on a random tree and expect deer to walk right out in front of you.
It is an extended process. We start putting trail cameras out in the middle of summer. Start trying to figure out where they are at and where the most activity is. We then come back right...
I'm sure this is a troll...but I'll bite anyways.
I was going to offer some friendly advice when I had read the first half of your post. But by the time I finished reading your entire post I just came to the conclusion that it was one of the dumber things I have ever read.
This is more for those of you that stay in a stand all day long. I typically hunt mornings and evenings and this year I've started sitting in the afternoon a little bit too. My typical morning hunt is in the stand right at or before daylight and stay until about 9-10am depending on the weather...
Meh. I don't shoot little bucks. I try and keep it at 8+ and preferably a nice 8 at least. If I'm going to shoot a deer for meat then I'll shoot a doe. I don't understand why people shoot little spike bucks and little 4 points. But, if it's legal and they want to fill the freezer I'm not going...
Let me throw you all a spin....I'm a georgia resident and my dad just changed to a south carolina resident this year...does he need a license to hunt on our family owned land in georgia? We both have hunting licenses that don't expire for another two years. One of my friends is a game warden...
