Good call...I like the proposed change. Yes, I mostly use "new posts" button, but there are times I like to go back through older posts in each section, hoping to find an old ad for something specific that hasn't sold yet or whatever.
Then don't buy from them.
I've gotten burned by a low post noob once...showed up and he didn't. Was a good deal that he apparently decided to give to his brother instead. Never heard from him again.
I've also had good deals with relatively new people.

Yup. We were all new at some point. I take precautions, yeah...face to face, cash, etc...but if someone is offering a good deal, why should they be restricted because of a few d-bags?
I personally don't like the positive comments, either...if I'm going to try and negotiate with the seller a bit, it hurts me when he sees all the great comments and thinks his junk is worth more than it is.
