I have the new 4 inch one, bought in October 2020. Action is really smooth, and it is incredibly accurate. Never owned an older one but I have shot an older one briefly at a range once. Didn't compare side by side but don't think there's much of a difference.
I’ve always like the g26. The 43x/48 do feel a little nicer in the hand, but I’ve found the height of the 26 better for concealment (it’s even shorter than the 43 believe it or not). It’s a little chunky but still shoots great for me personally
Price and size, 38 only revolvers are almost always cheaper, 38 revolvers can be made super light, small etc. but if it’s a bigger heavier gun, might as well get a 357 if you have the money for it
If you've never shot a 45-70 I'd recommend trying one first, it's awesome but kicks hard. 44 mag out of a lever gun is super easy to shoot, holds more and is cheaper. But can't go wrong with either
I have the 229 in 357 sig since I like the cartridge and prefer the smaller size. The sao is only available in 9mm 226, but the trigger on it is fantastic. If they had the sao for the 229 357 I'd probably prefer that. The DA/SA is good but it's not mind blowingly amazing either

Thanks for the responses guys, yeah it seems like most all ranges allow just slugs and some allow 00 buck. I don't mind going to wma ranges but they're just farther away, I'll check out bullseye though
I've always felt that bad guys looking to kill will always go for the one they know has a gun, as that guy would be their biggest threat, I could be wrong but that just seems like the strategic move
