  1. I know pistols are more popular than revolvers but......

The French Army bought Savage 1907s specifically for their reliability in trench raids.
  2. Enfield Number 5 Mark 1

It’s pretty uncomfortable when shooting it left handed because of the location of the swing swivel. Right handed isn’t too bad, no worse than a 12 gauge single shot.
  3. Enfield Number 5 Mark 1

Mini update. Was beating up an 8" steel plate at 100 yards with a friend today. No stellar accuracy but accurate enough for what it was intended for.
  4. Enfield Number 5 Mark 1

What sort of accuracy were you getting at 50 and 100? I’ve only shot some PPU through mine to verify function and was getting about a 4” group at 50 yards. I realize there are a lot of variables that come into play and I’ve barely touched on eliminating them, I’m just curious as to what I...
  5. Enfield Number 5 Mark 1

Those dots are 2". Ammo was PPU 174 grain FMJBT. I was shooting off a bench with props at 50 yards.
  6. Enfield Number 5 Mark 1

The left handed group was better but still not stellar. I attribute that to me more than to the rifle at this point. It has been a long time since I've done any shooting with a set of peeps. Like most military rifles, the trigger is rather heavy so I'm sure that has something to do with it as...
  7. Enfield Number 5 Mark 1

So I didn't have nearly the time to run this rifle through it's paces like I wanted. I'll have a better opportunity next weekend. In the short term, I ran four rounds through it right handed and four rounds through it left handed. There was some stringing in the RH group but part of that was...
  8. Enfield Number 5 Mark 1

I love the internet for stuff like this. That stamp is an Inspector's Mark and has nothing to do with the serial number.
  9. Enfield Number 5 Mark 1

So the only markings I saw on the stock was this stamp on the wrist just behind the trigger guard. ETA: The guy I got it from said the rifle was his dad's and his dad had oiled the stock, which would account for the dark area around the crown, the N, and the 22. I've no idea what those mean...
  10. Enfield Number 5 Mark 1

I managed to acquire some appropriate ammo to run through it this weekend. I’ll get a decent idea of accuracy tomorrow I hope
  11. Enfield Number 5 Mark 1

Thanks. I’ll take a closer look when I get back to Rancho del Wheeler.
  12. Enfield Number 5 Mark 1

Where would I look for the number on the stock?
  13. Enfield Number 5 Mark 1

  14. Enfield Number 5 Mark 1

I acquired this Jungle Carbine the other day and it looks like it was never issued. Any Enfield experts care to give me some guidance?
  15. 10 Shots Quick!

    Thanks!
  16. 10 Shots Quick!

I've been waiting for my birthday to buy that for myself. :)
  17. 10 Shots Quick!

I saw that. That’s an optimistic price.
  18. 10 Shots Quick!

That looks like it has real sights! Where did you come across that?
  19. 10 Shots Quick!

How does the 1917 compare to the 1907?
  20. 10 Shots Quick!

    Nice! Is that a 1917 I spy?
