Check out Forgotten Weapons on YouTube. Ian AKA Gun Jesus has videos on both models and a separate video shooting one.
BTW... it's 45ACP only firing from a closed bolt with the charging handle in a small narrow slot in the bottom of the stock. Biggest problem with them was the 20 round mags .
Let me think WAY back for a minute. Seems like there was a nice 10/22, a gold rope chain, probably one of my first SKSs. Beer was cheaper back then but I was poorer then too.
I always confuse the M and D model. But back in 07 I had the one without the hideous thumb hole stock. It was a very neat concept but it wasn't executed that well. Mine had a small square metal plate screwed to the inside of the stock . That was the plate that the front part of an AK mag hooked...
That's a fine enough goal but it's a hard pill to swallow when I see most SKSs priced at or above what you could assemble an AR for. And if you just dig the caliber you could build one in 7.62x39. Don't get me wrong I dig wood and steel .I would trade 2 ARs for 1 AK right now. It's just hard to...
Bingo! We have a winner. The original style SKS is a fine rifle and perfectly fine for lots of uses. However, once they went beyond the $300.00 range they lost almost all their appeal to ME. So with that in mind I didn't thunk I would ever own another one . ( Kinda like M1 Carbines) But last...
My father had a Ted Williams 12 gauge pump that was a clone of the Winchester 1200. Solid gun. I had a JC Higgins model 20 pump in 12 a few years ago. It was a copy of the High Standard Flite King. Even with one action bar it was the smoothest pump action I ever owned. You could hold it upright...
I did that back in 97 ot 98 after installing correct Chinese wood on my Mak 90. While drinking Scotch I took a saw a wood rasp and sanding blocks to the old thumb hole wood. So you were right about the little skill part. :becky:
People here think I'm the cheap gun guy. What you have there is worth WAY more as a family heirloom than as a gun for sale. Stash it somewhere safe for your kids and grandkids.
You need to get down here to Perry when the ammo cans get here. My buddy Robby has an original cloth bandolier or Krag ammo. It kinda looks like nail apron material but it has like 4 or 5 sections about the size of cigarette packs where ammo is sewn into it. I've never seen another one like it.
I would be searching for more wood for it and the funnel style muzzle break. Short version is I'd make my own number 5 Jungle Carbine out of it since it's already been modified.
Yeah I've always heard that you could shake them and hear them rattle. My uncle used to say that there was no way Oswald could pull off such rifleman work with a rifle that crappy.
I've passed on deals for Arisaka rifles in recent years . It was mainly because they just look funny and use that weird caliber ammo. I would kinda dig one of the old Carcano carbine mainly for the Kennedy/Oswald history. I've always heard and read that Carcano quality was spotty at best. But...
