    Yes, they use a micro SD, the real small ones. I keep a 64Gb in mine and have never filled it up, so I'm not sure how long you actually have. The batteries usually give out while before the card fills up. I would splurge for an extra battery and charger (about $50.) if you can swing it.

    Another plus that I have found is that you can download the video to a computer and view it frame by frame to choose the best shot of a video clip. Then I save that frame, edit it by cropping, enhancing, whatever and it looks like I actually know what I'm doing!!!
