  1. Gunsmith Near Thomaston needed to fix canted A2 front sight on an AR

That’s what I was thinking too. I guess it could be possible to weld up and re-drill the pin channel, but it’s a lot of trouble. Could snatch the FSB and put a low profile one and just run rail mounted sighthis, or I would personally grind the triangluar “sight” and bayo lugs off the FSB, turn...
  2. Gunsmith Near Thomaston needed to fix canted A2 front sight on an AR

:hand: Hold up! Just take your barrel off, grind down that pesky little peg on the barrel extension that’s making it sit crooked and snap it back together straight like legos. Fixed! You’ll avoid the $1000 gunsmith fees, plus everyone knows all gunsmiths hate fixing things, they only like spray...
  3. Delete

They are typically set in place, and a single hole drilled through the FSB, and into the outer radius of the barrel, and a taper pin is tapped in. If the FSB and barrel were one unit from the factory then you just need to tap the pin back in, if not I personally would send it to someone more...
  4. SBS’ing a SxS

The brass of a shell would be a cool plug. Could drill out the primer hole, put a female threaded insert, or QD plug and bed it in with JB weld or something. Kinda like how they add QD plugs to wood or poly stocks.
  5. SBS’ing a SxS

Cut a wooden plug, stain/finish to match. Perhaps put a threaded stud in the plug, so you can screw something into it pull it out if you ever need access to the bolt. You could also make some kinda butt plate, and perhaps put a lanyard loop on it. Might want a lanyard to wrap on some idiots...
  6. Carbon fiber AR barrel?

Might wanna compare weights from a very light profile barrel to a carbon fiber and see if the cost-to-benefit is worth it. If you aren’t shooting a lot of volume or rapid shots then a light steel barrel will probably be the most cost efficient way to go.
  7. Carbon fiber AR barrel?

Don’t you need all the barrel you can get for the Grendel to reach desired velocity? Guess carbon fiber really makes more sense for longer barrels where the weight really starts dragging the muzzle down. Go for it.
  8. Carbon fiber AR barrel?

Don’t have one, but from my understanding there is a super light profile steel barrel core with rifling that is wrapped in the carbon fiber. The carbon fiber adds strength, rigidity to an otherwise flimsy tube. A lot of competition shooters use them, and some super hardcore back country hunters...
  9. Who sells decent A2 Carry handles around town?

The ones from the big name guys are usually about 100 bucks new... I would be wary of the quality on a $20 one. The handle may be fine, but I would never trust a $20 sight.
  10. Who sells decent A2 Carry handles around town?

I have one I removed from a bushmaster in one of my spare parts boxes. Message me if you wanna buy it. Edit: I believe bushmaster carry handles are are ''commercial spec'' so it will be a little off if you have an F marked front sight.
  11. Suggestions on entry level gunsmithing tools

Don't have any brand name sugestions. Center punch, drill press, a good file set(with large and small files), set of punches, and a brass or polymer hammer, torque wrench, scredriver set. Can't think of much you can't do without all this. As long as you avoid harbor freight you should be ok...
  12. Anyone use Seafoam to clean their firearms?

Do not use Carb cleaner...it can and will **** up some finishes. I know this from experience. I have used brake parts cleaner, with no issue (except it can burn your skin, so wear gloves). Engine degreaser works well, but leaves an oily residue.
