10/22 Porn

Put a skinner peep sight and skinner's bear buster front sight on my 10/22. Also got the merit adjustable iris. Really liking this iron sight set up much better than the fiber optic open sights that came with the tactical solutions x ring barrel.

Thompson Center has come out with their version of the 10/22. In my opinion it’s a pretty well thought out setup for a budget rifle.

The rail is part of the receiver.
Receiver mounted rear peep.
Fiber optic front.
Stripped down version of the Magpul X-22 stock.
Decent trigger.
Auto forward bolt release.
Over sized bolt handle.
Last round hold open using the TC mag.

I put the skinner 10/22 peep sight on my rifle. Used the Bear Buster one screw hole front sight from skinner as well. The front sight is 6-48 and the screw hole on the tactical solutions barrel is a 6-40 but the screw that came with the rifle was the correct diameter for the front sight so no alteration was necessary. It's a good sight but the elevation knob i purchased in conjunction with the sight does come loose when shooting a good bit so I'm going to go back to the screw it came with that requires an allen for adjustment. The front sight comes at a height of .548 if I remember correctly. Had to file that down a good bit. Haven't measured because I still want to play with the sights but the sight is a vast improvement over the stock 10/22 sight (low bar I know). I'm not a big fan of adjusting the rear sight by sliding the dovetail for windage and turning the rear sight for elevation but I haven't found a good click adjustable solution with a bull barrel that allows me to use the threaded muzzle and not cut a dovetail for the front sight. All in all I like the set up. Using the .04 aperture for Appleseeds/target shooting. Went from low 200's to qualifying confidently at my last Appleseed with the sight change. I was able to get the merit adjustable aperature from Skinner that I thought would be amazing. Hated it. It was difficult to adjust to a bigger aperature size and had a tendency to over adjust to too small an aperature size easily and came loose after shooting so needed constant tightening. Most importantly, the thing completely fell apart (in many pieces) in under 300 rounds of 22. Needless to say I did not find that a worthwhile purchase. All in all I like the skinner peep sight on my 10/22. Now that I've qualified at the Appleseed I'm going to play with it and see if I get consistent elevation moa change per "turn" of the rear sight up or down. I do wish the windage sliding dovetail had hash marks but I didnt really have any issue adjusting it easily but that would still be nice. Here's the pics........

I'll be checking these out. What mags do they take? Flush mount rotary (10/22-style) or some variation of such? I like the hold-open feature for sure.
If you want the hold open feature you'll have to purchase the TC magazines. One ten rounder comes with the rifle. If you're invested in OEM Ruger magazines like I am, those will work just fine. The four BX1 and four BX15 magazines I tested will work. I haven't tested any of the BX25's but have no reason to suspect they won't work.
