11/29 hunt after thanksgiving grocery getting

Braved the idiotic traffic to drive down to the property for an afternoon hunt. Brought the wrong rifle apparently. Missed opportunity on a giant at 275-300 yds cause he wouldn't stop long enough for me to get an exact range and I needed that to figure out drop and holdover at that distance. Wouldn't have needed to worry about it with my .308.

Then I apparently completely missed another decent buck at around 150 yds and a doe at about 80, both right before dark. No idea how I didn't hit them, but no sign of a hit anywhere, no hair or blood, and no deer laying dead within 200 yds of the shot.

The only thing that hasn't been crappy about today was seeing about 15 deer before dark and actually seeing two bucks I wanted to shoot. Now I get to go deal with a crappy 2.5 hr drive back to Snellville. Yay.
What caliber you was shooting?

8.6 Blackout. Upon further examination after getting home, it appears my scope has slid forward about half an inch from recoil, which explains my otherwise inexplicable misses. Weird since it was torqued down to spec and the rifle doesn't feel like it recoils that much.

Never hunt with out enough gun distance wise unless you enjoy sightseeing.

That's just about zero at that range with my 257WBY. No knob twisting. Deer moving, just give some lead @18" from behind the shoulder

I had enough gun if I had known the holdover for that distance without needing to reference a ballistic calculator. Didn't expect one to come out where that one did and go the other way, but of course deer don't give a crap where you want them to be.

Oh ok. Glad you figured it out. I have a Remington 700 8.6 blkout but haven’t mounted a scope yet or even shot it. I can’t wait though 😃
