I did not see a deer all morning at Hard Labor Creek, but heard a ton of shots. With all the rain the bottoms are like swamps...It is a muddy mess, so I changed my strategy and moved to some high ground on top of a giant hill that plateaus out on the top...Found a huge thicket and set up on a huge ridge that bordered the thicket. Ten minutes later this young 8 pointer stepped out and I nailed him. I shot him at 2:50 pm...I had to have some meat, and I haven't had much chance to go hunting this year, so his number was called. My 71 year old Dad was with me and that made it so much cooler.
His hocks were nasty and he was cruising. He was a healthy young buck. He dressed out at 130. I should get a good bit of meat. First deer taken with my new A bolt. I'll be out there again tomorrow morning. Bright and squirrely. View attachment 582883
