11/7 Deer Hunt - Be Sure and Bring Your Scuba Gear

I went out in it this morning because it wasn't raining THEN! Dang yellow jackets tried to run me off, then the wind picked up, and then the monsoon set in. Back in the house and in bed by 0845. Gonna put meet in the freezer this afternoon though!

Yeah we called it a weekend when the monsoon hit around 930 this morning. in 3 days we hadn't seen a deer period. Not on our property, on the dirt road getting to it, on the neighboring fields, or on the 40 minute ride from Jackson to Juliette. Not one single deer.

Yellow jackets were out with a vengeance this week. It felt like trying to hunt in early June.

Ladder of doom strikes again!

I set my buddy up in my ladder since the rain died off around 7:00am.
I called my buddy and told him I had a feeling it would be a good morning to set him up on my ladder with my Excalibur.
He shot my bow before and liked it.....I just reminded him to point and shoot.
He got on stand at 9:30.
He broke out "the can" and let out two consecutive blaaaaaaaaaahhh's.
Within 2 minutes he saw this healthy 5 pointer sneeking up on him from the adjacent ridge.
It came closer until he was right on top of it.
My buddy played his cards right and had to adjust to the right to mAke a good shot but not until the bucks head was blocked by a tree.... He readjusted, aimed and waited for him to expose himself.
He wandered out in the open and my buddy hit him hard in the spine with a shwacker.
The buck immediately flexed and raised his head way high and grunted like oooohh man this sucks and went down like a ton of bricks.
I'm watching the whole thing from 50 yards away in a ground blind.
The deer was still but still breathing.
My buddy cocks it again from the tree with his foot in the stirrup and loads my spare bolt cutter and waits for an opportunity.
The buck gets excited
And tries to get up and run but falls back down and does the back leg shuffle down the hill about five yards and rolls up against a log.
I'm watching.....waiting......finally the buck turns and exposes his underside and my buddy lets one fly right dead center of his chest at the base of the throat.
30 seconds later it was all over.
Excellent shooting from my buddy.... Pinned him down right there for an easy drag.
Same exact spot I got my six a couple weeks ago.
Needless to say my buddy is happy as a kid in a candy store.

Weighed 135# dressed out.

Been hunting for 34 years. Take my advice, unless you are sitting in a dry shooting house or an old barn, stay home, wait for cooler, dryer days. Rut should be on in next week or so. Save your vacation days...and stay dry.:-)

Yeah but pays off if you get out there after that rain stops.
Deer gotta move some time.
They do, I have noted thru the years especially in ga. That cooler weather seems to make them more mobile and frisky. I have hunted in rain, monsoons, storms...etc and have taken some deer but my biggest wallhangers in cool crisp conditions. Good luck fellows!
