Had a great afternoon here at the lease. We got settled in the stand around 3:15. The wind was fairly consistent for a stand that had several mature bucks working the area. Within minutes, we had a small buck come through, not legal for him to fill his second tag. Around 3:50, I caught movement back in the pines, then I saw a nice rack, with several points sticking up on both sides. B settled in on him and made a perfect shot right behind the shoulder. The buck mule kicked and ran. He was real low and hunkered up, tail tucked…..I knew that the shot was well placed. The thump from the round echoed across the bottom that we were in. 30 minutes later and a 75 yard long blood trail led us to his best buck yet, a handsome, 10 point with a 1.5” long kicker on each base, making him a 12.
Best part about it was that he had on my late Father’s favorite hat. It’s been lucky for us. I’m sure he was watching his grandson. He’s been a very patient hunter this season and was handsomely rewarded for it.
