I know it's a lot more expensive, but the performance is much better and it will last WAY longer than several cases of Life Straws (or so they claim). I also like mine because the filter is removable and you can take a 5 gallon pail and with a couple dollars at home depot you can set it up to filter the water coming out of the 5 gallon bucket.....much easier to deal with......not that I am above spitting water out of my mouth to cook with, but yeah that just ain't right.....let's get everyone at camp sick.....no thanks.

The life straw is one of those disaster-scenario products. For general hiking, etc. there are better products.

I picked up a sawyer filter from The Preppers Vault, only $23 and its good for 100,000 gallons with back flushing the filter. Won't filter chemicals, but parasites yes.

Just fill up the bag and squeeze the water through the filter, either in your mouth or into a container. Can be used as a straw or in line with a camel back type system.

I carry a frontier survival straw in my EDC and a sawyer in my bigger bag bit at that price I think its hard to say no. I think You should get at least 1
I carry a water heater tank on my back, 40gallon, good to go! if I need to make oatmeal or grits, i just plug it in and let it heat the water.

Lets see 40 gals of water at 8 lbs per gal= 320lbs so you must eat a lot of oatmeal.
