Well, I was able to fondle some Para Elites at a LGS, but was not terribly impressed. However, I did run across a Remington R1 Carry Commander that really got my attention. I read some positive reviews on it and decided to give it a try.
I never thought I would buy a Remington 1911, but overall, I really like it. I've had some issue with the ambi-safety being to easy to engage so I might send it back to Remington for a new one. Granted, ambi-safeties are something usually left to very competent smiths rather than a production line. I would much prefer a single sided safety and may just fit one myself.
I'm not terribly impressed with the trigger either, especially when the $600 R1s seem to have excellent factory triggers. I expected it to be at least as good if not better. It breaks right around 3.5lb, so it's not to terrible, but could use some cleaning up. The accuracy is amazing, however, and my nothing-special reloads hit POI consistently at 7-12yds. The trigger has potential with some tweaking and will soon see a 80 to 70 series conversion. I wish it was a series 70 to begin with, but oh well. Anyhow, the full verdict is still out until I get more rounds through it, but looks like a keeper so far. Really love the fit and finish on it. At 38oz empty, it's currently relegated to office desk duty.
