First, Rick would say “I have a friend who is an expert in 1940 Quarters. Let me call him up and get him down here to look at it, then, I’ll give you a dime for it.”Rick (Pawn Star) would give you a dime.... best he could do....
I actually met the whole cast, they are all pretty coolsell it to Chum, he s a moron
When the mother in law passed and we cleaned out her house I took a few old jugs full of coins and was bored today and dumped one out. Was sorting the coins and noticed the quarter gave a different “clink” when thrown into the quarter pile, new by the sound it was silver but didn’t know if being 1940 made it special, it is missing the proof mark which is supposed to make it worth more, wish it was in better condition.Don't clean it. Add it to your silver stash, right now worth about 4.50 but that is better than just the quarter face value. Where did you find it? Sometimes, when you check the Coinstar reject bin you will find silver coins there (along with tokens and foreign coins) since Coinstar kicks out the silver.
Buy a Yeoman's RedBook and read up on coins, fascinating hobby.
