So here’s the deal…
I have a blend door motor that needs replacing. From what I’m reading it’s a bi**h because of the dual climate control. Seems this system has 2 of those and one is fairly simple but the other has to have the dash taken apart to access. If one needs changing the other can’t be far behind so I want to change them both out. I know I can do it BUT… I don’t think I’m up to the challenge without it taking me forever to do. So, any of you guys that wrench for a living that has experience at this I’d love to hear from. I’m not interested in a hack job so I’m hesitant to take It to a dealer. Any recommendations are appreciated.

My local mechanic changed mine for half the cost of the dealer. But, I have a very good mechanic that’s reliable and fair. He sent me a pic of my dash laying on my truck tailgate. And yes, I have had 3 Ford trucks that all had the blend door motor trouble. It’s genetic on fords.

Those model Fords are notorious for the little motor failing. When mine went, I just took it to the dealer and for $860.00 they made it like new.
Yup.. seems to be my route to take. I just cringe when I think of a tech new in the trade doing something like this. I wouldn’t think twice if I knew I was getting a seasoned technician.

That’s what I’m reading…

Some models require the dash and console etc.
I would let someone else do it. That’s a lot of 11 year old plastic to risk breaking and such.

There are some good videos on youtube on how to replace these blend door motors. The published method is to remove the dash but there are ways that it can be done (with a little effort and limber arms/hands) like through a removed glove box opening and pulling the front cover on the center climate/radio/etc. section and then removing just that section. Check it out.
