2025 gator

We went down to scout and do some fishing 2 weeks ago on the hooch, out of trail’s end. Only saw 2 babies in daylight, but plenty of eyes at night. I think we’ll get one.

What do you use for catch? And for dispatch? Dang I’m jealous. Can’t wait to draw another tag!

Fishing rods and homemade weighted trebles last year, dispatched with a 22 pistol. Pretty much the same idea this year. It worked once……..

My cousin drew for zone 7 this year so I made the trip down and helped him fill his tag!

First gator for any of us in the family! 8 foot 9 inch.

A little bit of both, stayed mostly up the river but hunted some brackish water too. Tons of gators in all the areas we hunted but this was one of the biggest we came across. We had one that was probably 12+ feet give us the slip in the river.

We used some large weighted treble hooks on some heavy duty spinning rods for the initial catch. Once we got it closer to the boat we used a larger home made treble hook on a hand line/rope(think swamp people tv show) to get him up close enough to shoot it. My cousin used his Taurus 38 special to kill it but any caliber handgun or bang stick is legal in Georgia.

My Son and I are heading to Seminole very soon!
Hope to get him on his first gator. He will be handling dispatch with a 19x or bang stick.
