22 Mag or 17 HMR

For the mag. I don't often check .17 as I don't have one. Also, my varmit shots are usually limited to 100yds and closer due to the amount of heavy brush. If I'm going for distance I'll switch to my 7.5x55 Swiss.

I understand. I tend to get more 150-200 yard shots on beaver and other small predators.

338 lapua.... But really, ive never had either but ive thought hard about the 17 for varmint.

I cant afford the can for one so i wont own one! But in reality, if someone is going to shoot 22 mag, why not just step up to .223? I just feel 22mag is a dead round in this day and age.

Only real advantage is being able to use it during small game season.

22lr or the 17 would seem to fit that role more so. Cheaper ammo and easier to find.

Bring them up to FCWA. I need to sight in my suppressed 17 HMR. I will say this, at 30 yards the 17 will straight up remove every vital organ and rib cage of a feral cat......or so I have heard........

Also, 17 HMR blows right through my steel plate.......still kinda pissed about that one. 22 mag does not.

The only reason I own anything in 22lr is for the girls to shoot. Once the youngest is big enough to shoot a 243 we won't have any 22LRs anymore.

And I can find ammo at Wal-Mart every time I go. That hasn't been an issue yet.
