.223/5.56 Bulk Ammo

So I got my first AR this weekend and without fully knowing it was sold a 500 bulk pack of WPA Ammo and didn't realize it was steel core and can't be shot at the indoor range I frequent. So I ended up having to buy (4) 20-round boxes of American Eagle .223 from the range at $11 a pop.

So what is the general consensus on the best cheap range ammo for a 25-yard indoor range? I'll have to save the other stuff for a outside visit to Creekside or similar.

I have 1000 rds or american eagle .223 still in case on stripper clips for $375 if you're interested.

Its Big Woods Goods....ask to see my ammo, ran a magnet over it and said nope. Might have to check with Hi-Caliber that is literally right there.

Most indoor ranges wont let you use steel cases.

Just 2 months ago you could get wolf gold brass for $290 shipped for 1000rds.

Big woods is far better than hi caliber in all aspects except hi caliber you can shoot slugs

The copper guild/coated soft steel jacket with lead core bullets do create sparks if striking a hard surface. Minute un-burnt powder residue from firing builds up at indoor ranges, collects in shell piles and if one is attempting to shoot loose shotgun shells laying on the concrete floor it can create a significant fire, flames about 5 feet or so, shutting down the range and requiring the range master to extinguish it with a dry powder fire extinguisher.

I would find another place if they asked to see my ammo before I shot. I think that kind of crosses the line. A range guy saw we were shooting green-tip at our local range and he didn't care. Of course I think he was more interested in talking to my wife's friends at the time.
