Has anyone here built their own 2x72 belt grinder? I've been thinking about building one instead of buying one. I Thought maybe someone on here may have some experience or advise on it..

No weld grinder. Google it. I made one and it does the job.

Variable speed is imperative. I used a step pulley to keep it cheap. I’ll try to send you pics later.

mine is a 2x42, and its ugly as sin. But it works surprisingly well, and i literally built it out of 3 broken tools and whatever i had laying around during quarantine... plywood scraps, whatever. No trips to the store. Total cost = $17, and that was for the belts i ordered. The bottom pulley is a laminated plywood wheel, and it has belt sander and bandsaw parts in it lol.
I bought the whole chassis from Origin Blade Maker and did my own baseplate, motor, and VSD.
I did have to buy a motor pulley also, but it was reasonable.
This was the best route for me taking into account price and time to assemble.

That's bad a$$ to be built out scrap stuff. Made any knives yet?
I kinda started on a profile, but i got kind of involved in other things. I think that was around the time i joined ODT...
i did this in about 30 mins with a grinder and the 42. It used to be a file. Literally just dipping my toe in the water.
