30-30 or 45/70

the whole brush thing is pure myth any projectile that strikes brush will be thrown off course. Ive had both 45-70 kicked like a mule so i sold it. for hogs deer they where allways drt tho.

45-70! Both are good brush guns but 45-70 is superior in all cases in my opinion. Yes it is more expensive, however you can get anything from a plinking 200 gr bullet to a shoulder thumping 500 gr bullet traveling at 1800fps. As far as it being "too much" not at all i say! For one you will never have to track again, also there will be LESS meat damage from a 45-70 than a 30-30 or any other popular high powered rifle. Slower heavier bullet causes a 45 caliber entry wound and a 45 caliber exit wound...thee is no "shockwave effect" which is really all that causes your meat damage. You will have less meat damage, no tracking...and did i mention how awesome that beast is to shoot??? Get the 45-70 and eat right up to t.he bullet hole!

I really liked my .45-70... recoil wasn't that bad, but I did reload for it. And a 400 grain hollowpoint hitting a milk jug full of water at 75 yards made everyone's day at the range. That was a helluva splash!

As far as a brush gun, 12 gauge sounds a little better to me. At close range, I don't know that there's going to be much difference in slug vs. 00 buck.

The 30-30 is a better choice. The 45/70 has a high arching round which can get deflected by low tree limbs etc. that you would not think were even in play.
