357 lever gun hunting round

I'm not a shoot thru the brush for any reason type of hunter. I do have other options....but a long bow is better than throwing a rock, right? Some guys choose bow hunting later in their hunting life.....that's not me. I want to hunt deer in close range with a gun that isn't over 2000 fps and that's what I'm gonna do. I think I've narrowed my ammo choice down to the Buffalo bore options. 180gr at a pretty good clip. Thanks to all that have contributed.

.357 is plenty for deer here in GA especially in a rifle. I second the Gold Dots or any good defensive hollow point. I've killed several deer with handguns in .40, 10mm, and .44 several with a single shot but I was picky with my shots and limited myself to my distance limitations. Used Gold Dots, Hydra Shocks, and exposed lead flat points, all work if you do your part.

I can confirm a 180gr Gold Dot from a 40 s&w will pole axe a deer within 20 yards or so.

I settled on the 140 gr JSP bullet and a max load of H110 for deer in my 357 mag carbine. Can't argue the 158gr JSP as a close second. I found the 140 gr is faster than the 158 and just as accurate. The 125 gr seems to not be as accurate for the longer shot. I found the 357 mag is good to 100 yards no problem. Wallace

If you use 125gr, use the flat point bullet. Otherwise it won't be wide enough to use the rifling in the barrel. In other words, not accurate at all.
Please don’t say this stupid **** again. All weight jacketed 357 mag bullets are .357 in diameter. It doesn’t matter if it’s 95gr or 180gr, it’s the same diameter, which in turns engages the rifling in the barrel just the same.

Wow, I guess you've never had a 357 rifle. If you have, you're mileage is different
