Keep looking. If you can find a k-frame for $600, that would be my first choice. I've not paid more but I haven't bought recently.

3” 7 shot 686 Smiff would be my choice if I carried anything over a J frame in a revovler.
Should be able to find a blued 19 for around 600-650
I've been eye balling this 3" 7 shot 686. It is a good deal...Either way I believe a 3" is really what you want. I've tried most of them, and 3" is the happy place for a carry revolver, IMO, and especially a .357.

I prefer the 3" barrels in Smiths if shooting .357. The ejector seems more like it's full-length, at least to me. Makes ejecting .357 cases much easier for me.
S&W 686+ (7 shot), GP100, or how about a Dan Wesson revolver (I have all of these)? There is a model 14 (fixed rear sight) listed here for $475 with a 6" barrel. However, Dan Wesson's have interchangeable barrels/shrouds unlike everyone else. Easy to change and alter the character of the gun in less than 5 minutes.
Y'all don't laugh at me but I kinda liked the 357 Magnums Taurus made in the late 90s with either 7 or 8 round cylinders. May have been both. I can't recall. Also someone mentioned 3" barrels. I think that's a pretty good compromise for a carry revolver when you can find it.
