It would be nice to find a good attorney that is close to Dalton because I could burn a lot of money in travel costs for an attorney that is father away

Kevin1 Kevin1 - I don't know if I was clear when I mentioned the travel costs. I didn't mean my travel costs when I said that. I meant if/when my attorney had to travel to Dalton for court hearings that travel time would all be billed to me at the attorney's hourly rate. So, in my mind having an attorney that is closer would be better to have on those travel costs, and (probably most important) they may have invaluable experience with local courts and officials.

What I know about divorce was all witnessing guys around me. The advice I'd give is video every interaction with her if you have any. What I witnessed in every instance was the wife lied her ass off claiming to be a victim of this and that making the man out to be an abuser

Hey man, it happens all the time. What happens, happens. You can let it drive you crazy or do it and go on. If y’all can’t work out the split of stuff, a judge will. The quicker the stuff is split, less money out. I negotiate deals on a regular bases, be smart and be cool. Every time you talk to or a lawyer talks for you, by the hour plus expenses. Only thing they will be talking about is splitting of stuff and they will drag it out. Do not show your hand to anyone, see what they want.

LARGO9 LARGO9 - That's a great question, and right now, I have no idea. I would like to think it would be friendly, but I feel like I should be prepared for a fight either way.
If you can keep it friendly and talk like adults and split whatever and work out the details it will go smooth. My first wife and i used the same attorney. had all the details worked out and the attorney just filed the paper work. Even the attorney was surprised and ask what's up with you 2, lol. Just told him we make better friends. Still go and visit her and her husband.
Good luck brother.

I agree with the relationships between the attorney and the local court. You have received very good information on here from other members. When I went through this I wish I’d had a “body cam” the police use for every interaction. Hard as it is don’t leave or “abandon” her/them. Start a dated journal with details of any conversation.

After 32 years my ex wanted out. We divided our stuff, we made a contract (that I drew up), had two friends who were lawyers read it, and they said it was valid. We parted amiably. She walked the paperwork through the court. I didn`t even have to show. All went well. It was a no-fault divorce. We didn`t fight, which is what causes most folks to end up spending a fortune on lawyers. All we paid was a small court fee. That was 26 years ago.

Your post is amazing, I thought I might have wrote it awhile back. I honestly think my lawyer was trying to drag it out for more $$$ I/we had decided who’s getting what. Paralegal told me she hadn’t ever seen such a smooth divorce. (With 2 kids)
It take a lot of patience and work on my behalf though.

Glen Stinson in Dallas ga. He saved my Brother's butt. Cost him $10,000.00 but he kept everything. He's good, his nickname is "The Bulldog" I sat on a jury, he was one of the lawyers, tough as hell in court. If he will take it.
