5.56 vs. 300 Blackout

.300 blk was made for suppressing and reload if you plan on shooting a lot. You can resize 5.56 brass too if you know what your doing.
 
Depends on how quiet you wanna go. With a 5.56 SBR, a good suppressor, and standard ammo, you can easily run the gun without ear muffs. Nope, not as quiet as a suppressed .300Blk running subsonics, but possibly quiet enough depending upon your needs.

AR's in .223 with a good can at the end of a 16" barrel can sound like a .22 rifle with high velocity .22LR ammo.

But .300 Blackout subsonics are a lot quieter.

Even those, however, are not "movie quiet"
