That's the truth. Last season was my first time growing okra and I would harvest all that I could see and a day or two later it would look like I hadn't cut any in a month. Also learned a lesson, make sure you top off the plant at around 5-6 foot or they will continue to grow up. I had a few that made it to 14ft tall.
Depends on the variety.

Get one that tops out at about 5-6 feet.

Lee is a good one, easy to find

Cajun jewel is another; very prolific on a short plant.
 
Take and lightly coat okra with some Italian dressing (or just plain olive oil). Put on a hot grill, grill till just a little brown. You think they would be tough, but the pods crisp up like potato chips, seeds and all.
