I am wanting to shoot a deer at 400 to 500 yards. I am shooting a Winchester model 70 with a Nikon 3.5 x 14 scope with a bdc reticle. I don't have the confidence to shoot that far with factory ammo, so a good friend of mine has volunteered to help me with handloading rounds.

Who has a round that has proven to be lethal at those ranges? I would prefer to stay with a 150 grain bullet, or similar. I need to know all the particulars..... bullet, powder, etc.

Any of the loads with 140 grain bullets will be lethal out of a 7WSM at those ranges, including factory loads.

Why would you think they wouldn't be adequate?

Didn't say that a factory load wasn't adequate. Been using a high quality round for five years, and kill deer out to 300 yards with no problem. Since I have friends that load, I thought I might try something different to tighten up my groups at further distances. Recently, I had some fresh factory rounds that were not consistent, so if I load them, then I know what I've got.
