Driving my Chevy truck and she starts running like the choke came back on, stalling at every stop.
Saw the problem as soon as I opened the hood, fuel everywhere. If i keep the rpms above 2000, it is at an equilibrium point where the leak by the needle equals the fuel demand for the engine (note, no fire extinguisher). So I plot my course with no stops, and struck out.
Got it home and tore the q-jet down, and sure enough, the needle was several decades past its "use by date".
Got on the net and got the part numbers for what I need. What are the odds they have a zip kit for a 43 year old truck? Not good.
But, the next morning I remembered I had a spare q-jet, so I grabbed my coffee and screw driver and dove in. Pulled some parts from the spare, 30 min later, I had the truck up and running, just need to fine tune the idle.
As much as folks moan about carbs, they still work .
