With the cool weather, I've started my reloading season. I wanted to share some stats and details on my pet cartridge. The pointy bullet is a Barnes TSX 286 gr. And the round nose is a Woodleigh 286 gr.. Soft point. For comparison I put a 5.56 77 grain Nosler. Note that the Barnes bullet is almost the size of the entire 5.56 case and that the bullet diameter is almost exactly the size of the 556 case. Ballistics for the bullet are a muzzle velocity of 2450- 2550 FPS and 3800+ft lbs at the muzzle. All of this goodness in a 30'06 sized case with a 5 + 1 capacity in a CZ 550. Recoil is like a 30'06 hot load.
loads for this round are available in weights from 232gr Norma Oryx to 320gr Woodleigh soft points, solids and FMJs. factory ammo is expensive, but relaoding can be done reasonably. i bought 200 286gr Barnes for around $80.
these aren't long range rounds, but deliver a lot of energy inside of 300 yards. however nosler accubond 250gr has a bc of around .494 and can be pushed to 2700fps whic should be super sonic to 1200 yds.
