All model 28's came with magna stocks that were numbered to them...target stocks were very rarely numbered to a gun. I've seen only 2 instances of target stocks that had numbers stamped into them and they were much much earlier examples.

So after making a simple answer a lengthy one...no, the target stocks do not match the gun. Lol

If you find a nickel 28, I wouldn't touch it without a factory letter confirming it is original. VERY few were finished that way by S&W. Just a tidbit

25 in polished nickel for the Florida Highway Patrol and 5 in satin nickel are the supposed production numbers.

Gee I was just saying if it WAS nickel, my pocket would be lighter in a heartbeat. I seem to have a soft spot for nickel that causes my wallet to lose dimes and quarters quicker than you can say 357. Can't remember who the guy was that first got me hooked on nick with a beautiful 27-2.
