How do you plan on spending it? I mean you won’t be using 1 oz coins or bars to pay for things. Are you planning on chopping them up?

A question for those buying gold for SHTF

I don’t get it either. It doesn’t grow food.
It can’t hunt for food. It isn’t clothing or shelter. I would assume that skills and meat and vegetables would be worth more. All gold does is look pretty and weigh a lot.

Gold is for the recovery.
I stock up on other more usable currency, like liquor, food, ammo etc for the crisis.
Probably screwed when things get rolling if freight ain’t moving.

Gold is for big purchases, or you can make change with somebody for silver.
Silver coins would be for the weekly purchases, or some thing added "to boot" to help even out the value of a trade.

IMO, gold is only good to store value for the long term. You should have EVERYTHING you need to survive prior to investing heavily in it: long term food and water, security, communication, community, medical, etc. In a starving world, no one is going to trade you food for gold.
This kind of thinking (or lack of it) is right where the paper money (currency) banking oligarchy wants it to be.

I personally wouldn’t take a ton of gold for ammo, arms, food and so on.
Would seem like I am shorting myself because I wouldn’t have the tools or rations for myself or others if I took gold.
