Ahhhh great. Bought a stolen iPhone...

Yes I've made the decision to give it back to the owner yesterday by calling them and giving them my name and number. Im just trying to figure out what other options do I have? Seems like I'm always doing the right thing for others and not the other way around. I already told the owners I am going to the Cobb county police department and see what they say since the guy who I know didn't really sell it and he texted me saying he "didn't know" it was another persons phone. So that's all he has to say to get off the hook and while I do not have the actual guys information, it's pretty much useless for criminal charges.

Tell both of the parties involved since it appears you bought an either lost or stolen item, you are turning it over to the police with all the details you have of the transaction. The problem may just end up resolving itself at that point.

Actually the phone was never stolen. The original owner dropped it. That guy found it, sold it to me.

Well tell them both to prove it to the police. As someone else mentioned above, how do you know this isn't some type of scam they are running.

Bottom line is if you returned something to me that I had lost or was stolen, I would at least try to compensate you in some way.

The guy who posted it is saying he had no idea it was stolen or lost. I've already went to Cobb county and they said they can't do anything if the person that involved didn't know anything. I honestly can't ID him but racetrac does have it on video but you think cops will spend money to solve this $350 case?

I don't want any retaliations against me for filing charges against the guy I know when he claims he didn't know it was lost or stolen. That guy knows who I am and where I live.

I don't know if it's a scam but I do know the guy who, I don't know, is black. The "real" owner I been talking to, happens to be his wife, sounds white. They are going to meet me later tonight for the phone.

Your not filing charges. You simply bought a phone, and when you tried to activate it, you were unable to do so, and you believe it to be lost or stolen. Since you don't want to be in possession of it, you are just turning it over to the police and let them deal with it.

I thought you said it has a message that says "Phone lost, call xxx-xxxx". Why did the guy who 'found it' not call?

Yeah the "original" owner never reported it stolen. His wife even told me he knew he dropped it somewhere. So the black guy found it and decides to sell it? He said he had it for 4 weeks and no one called so he decided to sell it?
