Hey guys I’m thinking of buying this AK style rifle from a friend and I’m not sure exactly what it is. I’m not well versed in the many variants of AK and I could use some information and honest opinions. I’ve googled all the text on the rifle and it keeps showing amd63 and amd65. But this one has different furniture and I’m curious if this is a factory rifle from Hungary for commercial use or did this come in as a parts kit and built by importer or did the previous owner(s) change the wood. Any advice on quality, price, after market support, parts compatibility with other variants would be a tremendous help. Thanks guys

short gas Hungarian imported kit built on 80% FEG imported receiver and 16" US barrel, chamber doesn't appear to be chrome lined but could just be real dirty.
shouldnt be too dirty I cleaned and greased it for him today. Neither one of us know exactly what it is. Thanks for the information. Would a romy dong set fit this? He has a set for sale also but don’t know if it would fit.

It's a Clearview Investments build.
The barrel is cheap 4140 steel and the gas port is probably oversize. I had one and the barrel pin was broken from the factory. The furniture is a Hungarian pistol grip and Taiwanese lower handguard.
It has some good forged parts in it, but it's a parts kit rifle.

I wondered about that barrel pin with the weird divot in the middle?

Full disclosure he is asking $500 for it with one mag. In your opinion is it worth the money? I’m not an operator and won’t be blasting thousands upon thousands rounds down range. But will absolutely shoot my fair share of steel case tul out of it.

For $500... save up another $50-100 and get a WASR 10/63. Awesome cold hammer forged barrel with chrome lining, forged trunnions, and awesome track record of reliability. Import gun is better than a parts build in most cases.

I paid $349 or so for my CII and felt ripped off once I got it. CII also has non-existent customer service. I ended spending a lot more money rebuilding the rifle with a cold hammer forged barrel and a replacement trunnion.

If it's worth $500 to you, grab it. Otherwise, a really solid rifle probably isn't far off.

cool! Thanks for your honesty. He also has a 10/63 wasr so I might try and talk him into selling it instead. It’s in rough shape but AKs aren't beauty queens anyway IMO.
