Aluminium can pop tops ?

Have a friend who collects just the tops off of aluminum cans.

He says they are made of " pure aluminium " and are worth more.

True or false .

There are rumors that the pull tabs on cans are the only part of the can made from pure aluminum. According to Alcoa, aluminum from recycled cans, tabs included, is identical to aluminum smelted from virgin ore. The can itself is every bit as valuable and recyclable as the tab. You should also keep in mind that the whole can far outweighs the tab. One pound of aluminum equals about 34 empty cans or 1,500 pull tabs. Sorry to burst his bubble. Charitable organizations such as the Ronald McDonald House do accept pull tabs to help defray the costs and to provide help for patients unable to pay.

It is probably true but why waste the time. They pay you the same amount for the pop tops as they do for the whole can.

Biker has been great about sending them along with a few others which earns my daughter Beta Club points and are then turned over to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Trying to turn in the most at her High School to get her a small Scholarship next year.

I read an article that stated that 1 million pull tabs is equal to $366. lol. Thats aa lot of Beer drinkin right there

Do the math.....scrap Aluminum $0.55/lb there are 32 cans (12 oz) per pound. Nor certain how many pull tabs to make a pound but it's a bunch!!

OK I drink about 4 cokes per day so I figure that it would take me 695 years to collect 1000000 pull tabs. I think my kidneys will give out before then.
