Ammo problem I've never encountered before

Load one round into the magazine, and try to dropping the slide on that. Then you should be able to run a full magazine from there. It's fairly common, from what I have seen, you could also try starting with one round short of a full mag and see if it feeds. You might want to try having the ramp polished.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look up how to polish the feed ramp correctly.

Another thing to check for is to make sure the barrel is properly fitted to the gun. I had a RIA that the barrel was too far forward from the feed ramp and the bullet would snag on the top of the chamber of the barrel and it would cause it to jam up and set the bullet back. I sold it to a friend(he knew about the issue) and he had a gunsmith mill out the feed ramp a little bit and it functions perfectly now.

You can polish the ramp yourself if you want, just get yourself some eagle one wading polish, or something like it. It comes in a jar and it's like a cotton material with polish in it. It's super fine so you won't really be able to remove material, just clean it up. It will take you about an hour to do the job but you don't have to worry you won't be able to screw anything up.

If this is a problem that you have never encountered before, it's clear that you haven't been around 1911's as this is very, very prevalent in many versions of the pistol....so that being said, welcome to your newest addiction! ;)

You've been given plenty of solid advice already - I'll only add that the issue is ammunition specific. I wouldn't worry about testing different magazines so much as I would about testing different ammo. The 1911 was never designed to shoot HP ammunition so getting it to play nice with it can sometimes be a bit of a massaging act.
