And he ain't going to jump no more...

I used to do para drops with all branches from my Helo. I was dropping an EOD team one time and the wind gusted at the wrong time picked a guy up and slammed him up and down on his back a few times. Turned into a MediVac Flight straight to base hospital. The Helipad was new and people weren’t trained. We were coming down to land and bodies of medical personnel were flying like debris in a tornado. My 2nd crewman and the Co-Polit had to hustle him in on a litter to the ER like a combat zone. Point of the story is really dumb or brave people jump out of planes. I lean to the former.

Honestly I feel the same about folks who fly helicopters...it ain't natural.
I did both! Graduated Airborne School in 85. Graduated Flight School in 87. That must make a natural unnatural! :pound:

On a side note, I was enlisted in the Airborne and an officer in Aviation. I can tell you from first-hand experience the NCO Corp in the Infantry...and ESPECIALLY in any Airborne Infantry type unit is superior in every way to the other Combat Arms cadre. Once I was out of the 82nd I marveled at the professionalism and granite jawed talent The Division was and is blessed with.

I'd rather jump than fly and I'm too decrepit for that...when the chute opened I'd come apart like an over cooked chicken.
Lost my first CO in a crash, BIL was Army...killed in a crash in Alaska, DIL's first husband was Marine helo crew...killed in a crash in Cali.
Hell even the lady that used to sit with my wife survived a commercial plane crash years ago.
My last flight was Jan 31 1999, (remember the whole Y2K thing...folks where losing their minds) I had a flight back from NYC and when we landed in Atl I looked back at the plane and said " I'm done no more flying for me" I figured I used up my quota of good luck by then.
If I can't get there by car, train or boat I ain't going.

Although,
from reading the article linked in the OP Felix wasn't parachuting at the time of his death ---nor was he doing any crazy stunt.

It looks like he was just taking a pleasure ride on a paraglider --a powered parachute wing type glider that is not especially dangerous.

QUOTE: "The Red Bull-sponsored athlete is believed to have fallen ill midair which caused him to lose control and crash to the ground, into the side of a swimming pool, killing him instantly."

Stroke or heart attack midair, maybe?

(They say drinking too many Red Bulls is bad for you...)
