Ankle Holsters

Avoid ankle holsters if your can.

I had a friend who was mugged. Every time he went for is gun, the muggers kicked him in the face. He spent several days in ICU.

I can find it hard to imagine a tactical situation in which I will be grabbing my ankles.

I work alone a lot after dark finishing houses we flip. Do alot of driving too. There's just no way for me to carry on my waist at work. I just want withing with me. Everywhere else I have my cz p07 on my hip.

I work alone, often after dark, in houses people are flipping. My LC9 is concealed on my hip.

A gun on your person is better than one in the car but ankle draw is very awkward.

I have carried my Kahr PM40 in a nylon Bulldog Ankle holster and was amazed that I could actually forget it was even there. They have a wide band that Velcro closes snugly around the ankle so it will NTO slide and is soft and comfortable. The holster itself is cordura with a Velcro strap so there won't be any fast draw, but it also won't bounce out.

I agree with the captain that an ankle holster isn't the most tactical position, but it's better than none at all. I carry my Shield as a BUG on duty. I never ankle holster as primary carry, but again if that's your only option, it's better than not at all.

x2
and it's a matter of dedicated training. Not recommended for the average joe that likes to just stick on a holster and assume he is competant with it. I am/was quite adept in deploying from that position, not the greatest but sometimes it was the only option.

I like the look of the DeSantis. I'm gonna order it. I think it will be perfect for when I framing/doing carpentry with my tool belt on, or running the bobcat. During the summer I wear a lot of cargo shorts so I can pocket carry.

Now I got to decide on a lcr or another 442. Like the smith's but the lcr interests me for some reason.

I use the DeSantis and like it a lot. However, the one I have is designed to hold a J-frame with a hammer. I have put a 642 in it but it isn't a good fit. Will not hold a Bodyguard or LCR at all because of the hump on the back and certainly not a 638. I use mine for backup only.

If you plan to pocket carry in cargo shorts in the summer, why not carry in cargo long pants in the winter? Maintain the consistency of a place to carry and avoid the problem mentioned by Capt. Dave.
