Antique car

So…..cars made in the year 2000 can this year be tagged as antiques. 2000 seems like about 6 years ago.
A 1955 Chevrolet wasn’t considered an antique until 1980.
1955 was at least 40 years before 1980……
Ok, somebody said my math is off. If it’ll open…..here’s your math…..https://www.facebook.com/reel/1106857220838558/?mibextid=wwXIfr

It’s weird how cars age
Or not

When I was 16 in 1980, my car was a 66 Thunderbird

And it LOOKED old in 1980

But now in 2025 I drive a 2005 car

It’s 20 years old but just doesn’t look like I’m driving an antique / classic car like driving a 66 model did in 1980

Your 66 was 14yrs old. Your 05 is 20yrs old. The 66 was a real car. If you still had it and was in good shape, it would be worth a fortune. What will your 05 be like when it's 60yrs old??.........

His 05 probably won't be worth as much because there will be far more of them around then than 66's today. And anyone with a '66 anything at this point has already had a full body off restoration, it's a rust bucket, or it's been sitting in someone's barn and needs a full body off restoration.

Face it: In 1980 there just weren't that many '66 anythings around. Cars simply didn't last that long before they became unreliable or rusted apart.

But then the Japanese car manufacturers came along in the 70s and 80s and made the world start building better cars. Today my 2001 Nissan does not feel "old" to me. It has 230,000 miles on it and is still very reliable; in 1980 anyone with a '66 anything had already put two transmissions and a new engine in it, and no cars lasted over 200,000 miles without major work.

I had a beast of a ‘65 Mustang until my youngest son got his license to drive in ‘99. He’s almost 43 and still hasn’t forgiven me for trading it for a Harley without letting him take it out on his own at least once. He’s lucky he got to drive it three times with me in it with him, not no way, not no how! 😂 That car was freakin’ scary!

A nearly new custom ‘98 Sportster, only had about 1200 miles on it. The engine & drivetrain in the Mustang was so violent on launches it broke one of the motor mounts, was always blowing out the thermostat gasket and running 103 octane gas was getting expensive as hell in a car that only got about 5 mpg. I would’ve ended up either in jail or dead if I kept it, I just couldn’t keep my lead foot outta the gas in that car. I hit 2nd gear once showing out for a buddy and it went sideways twice before doing a 180 in the middle of the street. I was much safer on the motorcycle believe it or not. :becky: It was fun while I had it but my wife wouldn’t even get back in that Mustang after just one ride in it and she’s the one who wanted me to get a hotrod Mustang, I figured it was a good time to quit while I was still ahead and keep my son alive too. lol!
