Looking for Anvil and any equipment for forging and making knives
Thanks.

A lot more to an anvil than a big hunk of metal.
My dad got most of his in Kentucky (I will check but I think he got rid of them all)
Typically $1.00 a pound or used to be.
He had a couple dozen, after moving some I asked "Why"?
He gave me a hammer and had me drop it (holding it) on 3 different anvils.
On one anvil it bounced up probably 18 inches. (good anvil)
On the second it bounced up a foot. (decent anvil)
On the third, it barely bounced (dead anvil)
You will pay the same for a dead anvil, if not careful, and work a lot harder to forge stuff.
Have you ever seen a 500 lb. anvil? A BEAST! That one only got moved twice, in his shop, and out. lol:)
GREAT that another generation is getting into blacksmithing, it is a dying "art"

Yeah there high as camels cock.Really would like to find one my 14yr old son is getting into making his own knives and axes I'm dam proud of him.Helluva lot more than I was doing or thinking when I as 14.

Cool brother. Stoke your son's fire full of encouragement! :thumb:

Yes! Stoke it! (smith reference lol) If he ever sees a "power hammer" at work you will have to sell your gun collection. :)
"What is a power hammer?" you ask...
Picture a sewing machine big enough to have a 10 lb. hammer as the needle.
It then strikes an anvil (4 strikes per second if memory serves) with a sound like an automatic rifle, VERY COOL!
Nothing quite like the sound of a good hammer hitting a good anvil, and I'm NOT a blacksmith.

Yeah he has seen a power hammer and all the new technology. But believe or not he wants to do it old school way. Them power hammers are badass though I've been doing welding/maching 20+yrs I've got to do some playing.

I don't know where to find one to buy, but you can head down to the Goat Farm on Friday evenings for Hammer Therapy. Several forges and 11 anvils open to anyone who wants to bang something out. I think suggested donation is $5bucks an Hour. They also have classes for making railroad spike knives along with just about anything you want to learn. Great place, Great people.
